Gloria
On November 6, 2011, The Dan Meyer Choir debuted "Gloria" at The 2640 Space in Baltimore. A more serious look at the holidays.
Lyrics:
Child on a stained mattress
There in the gloom
Screaming to no one,
Alone in the room.
Your hip-hop lullaby
Blares down the hall
Drowning the sound
Of your call.
Where are the wise men?
Where are the gifts they’re bringing?
Where are the shepherds
And angels singing,
"Gloria! Gloria!
Gloria! Gloria!
Unto us a child is born."
Families with sweaters,
Warm socks and dry shoes
Sing "Silent Night"
In their comfortable pews,
But in the dark
Of a boarded up home
One baby’s crying alone.
Where are the wise men?
Where are the gifts they’re bringing?
Where are the shepherds
And angels singing,
"Gloria! Gloria!
Gloria! Gloria!
Unto us a child is born."
Silent snow, bring us
A blanket of white
Until the needles
Are hidden from sight.
Hide all the forties
And trash from our view;
Make the whole world
Pure and new.
Where are the wise men?
Where are the gifts they’re bringing?
Where are the shepherds
And angels singing,
"Gloria! Gloria!
Gloria! Gloria!
Unto us a child is born."
