Miracle on 34th Street
An a cappella ode to the over-the-top holiday decorations of Baltimore's Hampden neighborhood, "Miracle on 34th Street" was premiered at The 2640 Space in November of 2011.
Lyrics:
If you go to Hampden
Around the holiday season
You might think the residents
Have lost their sense of reason.
Did some Christmas disco blow up?
Did the Abominable Snowman throw up?
Everybody’s got an opinion
When they meet on 34th Street.
Some call it tacky,
Some call it whacky,
Some say it’s overdone.
And then some call it funny,
Or a waste of money,
Some call it just good fun.
Some call it happy,
Some call it crappy,
Kitschy, crazy or sweet,
Off-beat.
Call it what you will
But it’s a Miracle
On 34th Street.
Look at Santa Claus, he’s
With Mary there at the cradle
With the Grinch and Frosty
As the wise men spin a dreidel.
Everybody’s full of good cheer,
That’s what it’s all about
At this time of year:
Everyone expressing opinions
When they meet on 34th Street.
Some call it tacky,
Some call it whacky,
Some say it’s overdone.
And then some call it funny,
Or a waste of money,
Some call it just good fun.
Some call it happy,
Some call it crappy,
Kitschy, crazy or sweet,
Off-beat.
Call it what you will
But it’s a Miracle
On 34th Street.
