I’ve Been to the Mount
One of my favorite parts of the holiday season is the lighting of the Washington Monument on the first Thursday in December. So The Dan Meyer Choir sang a four-part gospel song inspired by that occasion.
Lyrics:
Hallelu! Hallelu!
I’ve been to the Mount!
Hallelu! What a sight!
I’ve been to Mount Vernon
On a cold December night.
I’ve stood with the happy throng;
Hallelu! I’ve been to the Mount!
Heard them sing their joyful song;
Hallelu! I’ve been to the Mount!
Met old friends and made some new;
I’ve been to the Mount, Hallelu!
Saw the lights around me burning
At the Mount Vernon
Monument Lighting!
How exciting!
Hallelu! I’ve been to the Mount!
Hallelu! What a sight!
I’ve been to Mount Vernon
On a cold December night.
Fireworks sparkling in the night;
Hallelu! I’ve been to the Mount!
And the Monument so bright,
Hallelu! I’ve been to the Mount!
All of Baltimore on view;
I’ve been to the Mount, Hallelu!
Every year I’ll be returning
To the Mount Vernon
Monument Lighting!
Looking down is good ol’ George
On the little town of Baltimore
As I parked, As I caroled,
As I harked with Harold.
Hallelu! I’ve been to the Mount!
I’ve been to the Mount,
I’ve been to the Mount!
I’ve climbed to Mount Vernon’s heights,
Heard the singing, saw the lights!
Not Greenmount, Not Mount Winans, hon,
Not Mount Royal, Not Mount Washington!
Hallelu! I’ve been to the Mount!
Hallelu! What a sight!
I’ve been to Mount Vernon
On a cold December night.
